About NBN

THE NBN BRAND
The National Broadcasting Network is taking a fresh approach to television.

Being the Philippines’ primary state media, it is the first channel to turn to for vital information about the country, its people and its government.

Whether you live here, you’re a Filipino living abroad, or simply looking to take your vacation or do business in the Philippines, NBN brings the low-down that could positively impact your life, or your stay.

Consistent with our corporate mission to be the primary source of information about the Philippines, NBN delivers news you can use, gathered and delivered by respected broadcasters seasoned in the ways of old school journalism ethics.

Our innovative programming arms viewers with knowledge and information that can improve their quality of life, or entertain them in a way that imbues values that are transformative.

In every program or story we air, we explore what people here believe in, how they express those beliefs and put it all in perspective; we strive to look at the ethical underpinnings in news events and in everyday life, and share them with our viewers.

BRIEF HISTORY
Our company debuted on air in 1974 as GTV-4. It was renamed Maharlika Broadcasting System (MBS-4) in 1980 and later became People’s Television (PTV-4) following the People Power Revolution of 1986.

PTV-4 became a full-fledged corporation owned by the Philippine government, known formally as People’s Television Network, Inc. with the signing of Republic Act 7306 on March 26, 1992.

The company was named National Broadcasting Network (NBN) on July 16, 2001. NBN operates on full satellite transmission using Palapa C2 with its main transmitter located in Quezon city and with 32 provincial stations nationwide.

OUR REACH
NBN programs are seen worldwide via Glocal Media Network and the direct-to-home satellite of Dish Network, in Eastern Canada through the Rogers Cable and IPQube (IPTV), in Africa through DTH provider, and in Japan through IPTV.

In November 2007, NBN rode on the power and potential of web 2.0 by launching its own real-time live streaming and video-on-demand website (www.nbni.tv), making its programs finally accessible to all, anywhere, anytime, and for free.
